Senator Bennet,
I've been a kidney dialysis advocate for over twenty years[1] and couldn't resist writing a bit of a snarky start - it keeps me from saying what I really want to say. So what billionaires am I concerned about? Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger, both are in their 90's (Mr. Munger will be 100 soon). At their age, I'm starting to worry about what is waiting for them in the hereafter. As I wrote in a blog[2] at the DialysisEthics2.org site, I worry their habit of not checking under the hood when they buy something may come back to haunt them[3][4][5].
I've already written Rep. Jason Crow about this. I figured you have a whole state to worry about and maybe my voice would be a little louder with Rep. Crow. Also there is a bit of a kinship with Rep. Crow. We are both ground-pounder vets. He was an Army Ranger and I was in the Army Security Agency back in the '70s. Rep. Crow seems ideal for starting a scouting mission for us - and I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you decided to add your two cents! I'll add I used one online message I sent him in another blog[6].
For now, I'm just trying to get the following question answered:
"There are a lot of reasons DaVita - the huge kidney dialysis company with it's HQ in Denver - should be broken up (the numbers[3], scandals[4]), are there any reasons left indicating DaVita SHOULDN'T be broken up into something like small care co-ops[7]?" (It looks like Mr. Munger and Mr. Buffett own 40% of DaVita)
With author Tom Mueller's book coming out August 1st (which I was interviewed for)[8], I wouldn't be surprised to find out there will be more questions for our favorite teddy bear billionaires.
May we raise the spirits of Rep. Wright Patman (Texas) and Louis Brandeis (R.I.P.)[9]
Regards,
Chris Schwab
